Autistic Edinburgh schoolboy 'blown away' after train of supercars take him to prom

Jaimé Flockhart, 12, was diagnosed with Klinefelter Syndrome at just four years old, an extra chromosome condition which affects a number of aspects of his life, as well as being told he had autism a year later

A naturally "quiet and shy" young boy, Jaimé's mum Sharon, 46, told Edinburgh Live that he had often found school difficult due to the large crowds, as well as trying to cope with conditions such as dyslexia and dyspraxia.

A pupil at Carrick Knowe Primary School, Jaimé and his primary seven year group had been gearing up for their leavers dance, known as the Quali, with a party bus and limo booked to take them all.

However, Sharon explained Jaimé couldn't face the bus, so said he would just leave it and make his own way there.

She said: "We were first told he had Klinefelter Syndrome at around four, we could tell something wasn't right as he wasn't reaching the milestones like talking and walking properly. Then it was around a year later we found out he also had autism.

"As well as that, the Klinefelter Syndrome also makes you grow faster than normal, so your bones and things can't cope with how fast you're growing, which means Jaimé is often in a lot of pain.

"He's only 12 years-old but is six feet tall, which leaves him in pain a lot with the muscles in his legs. It also means people think he's a lot older than he is and will think a lot of him, but really he's very quiet and shy.

"He had been quite anxious about the dance and said he didn't want to be on the party bus at all, he wouldn't have been able to deal with the noise and excitement, but I just thought I couldn't not to anything and have him just walk down there."
