Ayoze Perez insists Miguel Almiron's arrival can only be seen as a "positive" - even if the Paraguayan will be a direct rival for a place in Newcastle United's starting XI.

In fact,Perezhas been keen to help fellow Spanish speaker Almiron settle into the United squad following the playmaker's arrival from Atlanta United for an initial [pounds sterling]16million fee last month.

Almiron could make his full Magpies debut in the friendly against CSKA Moscow at the Pinatar Arena in Spain on Saturday, and the 25-year-old has made a real impression on his team-mates during the five-day training camp.

Interestingly, Perez sees similarities between his own game and that ofAlmiron, who some have suggested may displace the Spaniard in the United starting XI.

And, while Almiron has been bought as a No 10, the Paraguayan can play on either flank and as a second-striker, so Perez hopes that he can feature in the same starting side as Newcastle's newest arrival.

"It has to be a positive. It is great to have him," Perez replied when asked how he felt about the increased competition Almiron's arrival would bring.

"We are quite similar. It is good to have another option for the attacking. Injuries can be bad, but we have everyone involved trying to help the team.

"The more competition we have, the better we can be. It is good to have the new signings. It was good timing because having this training camp they [Almiron and Antonio Barreca] can be more comfortable.

"With every team-mate it is about making them feel at home. There are just three months left and we are going to need them to help us. We have to look after them."

Although Almiron understands English, he is not fluent in the language. However, the presence of a large Spanish-speaking contingent within the United squad has aided his acclimatisation.

Not only hasRafa Benitezbeen able to communicate with Almiron, so too have the likes of Perez, Joselu, Javier Manquillo and Salomon Rondon.

Perez arrived at Newcastle as a 21-year-old back in 2014 and remembers how daunting the experience can be of settling into a new country - and he wants to ensure Almiron's transition is as seamless as possible.

"We are looking after him. We are trying to make him feel at home. We are going to...
