Police rushed to the scene at around 11pm and found Matthias Poleon suffering from gunshot wounds.
He was rushed to hospital but sadly died less than 40 minutes later.
In heartbreaking scenes this morning Friday, June 18, family members including his mother wearing a black coat and cousin stood at the scene in tears.
“When I woke up this morning I didn’t think I would be standing here at a crime scene in the pouring rain and my cousin dead," one mourner at the scene told My London.
“We just don’t know why this has happened. It’s so unexpected.
“I don’t want this to be just another black boy dead in London. It makes you realise just how fragile life is.”
Forensics have since arrived at the scene and investigation work is likely to continue throughout the day.
A spokesperson from the Met Police said: "Police were called at approximately 10.50pm on Thursday, June 17 to reports of a man suffering gunshot injuries in Bedford Hill, SW12.
