Bibaa Henry and Nicole Smallman: Met officers Deniz Jaffer and Jamie Lewis jailed after taking pictures of murdered sisters

PC Jamie Lewis, 33, and PC Deniz Jaffer, 47, have been sentenced to two years and nine months in prison, half to be served in custody and the other half while remanded on license.

PC Lewis wept in the dock at the Old Bailey today December 6 while PC Jaffer expressed his 'unreserved apologies' for his actions.

Judge Mark Lucraft told the court "immediate imprisonment" was the only possible sentence he could pass.

While he accepted that remorse had been shown by the pair, their actions and the context of the messages had been "utterly distasteful" and had reduced the public's trust in the police.

The pair had previously pleaded guilty to committing misconduct in a public office between June 7 and June 23 last year.

They were assigned to protect the crime scene after sisters Bibaa Henry, 46, and Nicole Smallman, 27, were found dead in bushes in Fryent Country Park in Wembley, North West London.

Instead, they breached the cordon to take 'inappropriate' and 'unauthorised' photographs of the bodies, which were then shared on WhatsApp.

PC Lewis cried while his defence lawyer Luke Ponte spoke of the “real and damaging effects that this sentencing will have on [Lewis'] young son”.

In character reference statements, the court heard the officer from Colchester, Essex, is a “good and loving father to his two children” and is remorseful for his actions.

Defence lawyer Neil Saunders said that PC Jaffer had made 'unreserved apologies' for what he'd done and understood the upset he had caused to the families of Ms Smallman and Ms Henry.

He told the court: "Describing the two sisters as he did was shameful, the photos even more so, as well as disseminating them to other colleagues and friends of his.

"He recognises how totally disrespectful that was."
