Boxing coach who lost tooth after dentist 'failed to treat decay' awarded £8k compensation payout

Christian McKinley said he suffered 'pain and discomfort' during the 'stressful ordeal' with South Yardley's Bhandal Dental Practice.

The 43-year-old now needs extensive corrective treatment after Dr Parvinder Kumar allegedly failed to spot and treat the decay and fit an adequate crown and fillings.

Specialist dental negligence solicitors, the Dental Law Partnership, took on the case and saw a £8,000 sum paid in an out of court settlement.

The dentist did not admit liability.

“When I went for a regular check-up with Dr Kumar, he said I needed a filling,” Mr McKinley said.

“He was my long-term dentist, so I trusted his advice. It seemed like a standard procedure, so I didn’t think there was anything to worry about.”

Mr McKinley visited Dr Kumar at the Coventry Road practice, rated 3.5 stars on Google, between December 2012 and March 2017.

“A year later, I was told I needed another filling at a different tooth,” Mr McKinley said.

"Again, I thought it would be a straightforward procedure. However, I ended up making multiple subsequent trips to the dentist because the filling kept falling out.

"Eventually, my tooth ended up breaking, and Dr Kumar said I needed a crown. At this point, I still trusted his advice and hoped a crown would resolve my problems.”

Mr McKinley said he continued to experience problems with his teeth, with the crown feeling 'uncomfortable'.

“I could feel it was grinding against my lower teeth, but initially hoped it must just be because the crown was new and it would right itself," he recalled.

"By this point the earlier filling Dr Kumar had fitted also started to keep falling out. I suddenly felt like I was spending all my time at the dentist trying to get my teeth fixed.”
