Michael Platt, 56, holds the title of the richest individual in Britain, surpassing high-profile billionaires such as Sir Jim Ratcliffe and James Dyson with his sizeable wealth

But despite his astonishing worth, the Preston-born tycoon maintains a discreet presence, keeping such a low profile that his own receptionist isn't familiar with his name.

Back in 2000, Michael along with William Reeves founded BlueCrest Capital Management, an investment firm with a unique business model. Off the beaten path of typical hedge funds, BlueCrest operates primarily as a personal investment vehicle for its workers and top partners, instead of external customers, raking in billions of pounds for Michael.

Contradictorily, Michael's subdued visibility in public life continues to baffle, evidenced by BlueCrests London-based receptionist still unaware of his identity, as per Mail Online report. It's been over ten years since any media outlet managed to secure a public interview with him, and unsolicited emails seldom receive a reply from the elusive billionaire.

A confirmed camera-shy individual, Michael stays clear from paparazzi or organised photoshoots. When interviewed by The Times back in 2006, neither Michael nor William agreed to pose for any accompanying photographs, reports the Mirror.

Financial editor Patrick Hosking further added: "They guard their privacy fiercely and detest their regular appearances in newspaper rich lists."

Platt has certainly not shied away from the spotlight, having gone viral in 2019 for a cheeky boast about his wealth during a New York taxi ride. When quizzed by the driver on his profession, Michael didn't hold back, proclaiming himself as the world's top earner in finance.

"You're the highest what? " the intrigued cabbie questioned.

Michael's response was clear-cut: "I'm the highest-earning person in the world of finance. In the world."
