Candidates vying for spot in town's 20 council wards

Across Middlesbrough's 20 wards, there are 46 councillor spots up for grabs at the local elections, which will be held on May 4

Labour will be looking to take back control of the council after it lost its majority for the first time in 2019.

Currently, Labour has 21 councillors, the Middlesbrough Independependent Councillors Association has 10, the Middlesbrough Independents Group has nine, the Conservatives have three and there are also three Independents not aligned to any group, alongside the Indepedent mayor. A group needs 24 politicians for a majority.
