Car on fire on A1 Eastbound leads to lane closures near Gladsmuir

The blaze is understood to have taken place at around 5:30pm on the afternoon of Thursday June 23

Traffic Scotland took to Twitter to say that an Eastbound lane had been closed by Gladsmuir and that this was causing congestion on the roads by Gladsmuir where the incident occurred.

They tweeted: "#A1 Collision. #A1 Eastbound Gladsmuir now CLOSED.

"Traffic heavy in the area. Delays expected."

However they notified drivers that one lane had opened to help ease the heavy traffic in the area.

Although they updated commuters to expect long delays and congestion in the immediate aftermath of the incident.

Earlier this afternoon, Edinburgh Live reported that there was severe congestion on the outskirts of Musselburgh at Wallyford after a large HGV crashed onto the railway tracks.

It is understood that all of the emergency services were in attendance and Network Rail stated that commuters should expect some disruption when travelling to the East of the capital.
