Centrus Energy, a US-based supplier of nuclear fuel and services for the nuclear power industry, has started enrichment operations at its High-Assay Low-Enriched Uranium (HALEU) facility in Piketon, Ohio.
The company is expected to start withdrawing HALEU product later this month.
The facility is the only NRC-licensed HALEU facility in the United States and the first new United States owned, US technology uranium enrichment facility to start production since 1954.
