It is understood Coventry players felt Rashford was easily marginalised during the second half and that he could have got more involved in the game.

A Coventry player actually expressed sympathy with United fans who watch Rashford, conceding his ability could have decided the contest but that he was on the periphery.

Rashford's future is uncertain as his relationship with United matchgoers appears to be broken amid his dwindling form and indiscipline this season.

The England international has only scored eight goals, having plundered 30 club goals last term. Rashford was disciplined by manager Erik ten Hag for attending a birthday party hours after the 3-0 Manchester derby defeat to City in October and embarking on a bender in Belfast days before United's season resumed against Newport County in January.

Rashford was sarcastically cheered when he was substituted in the home games against Brentford and City in October and a minority of the Old Trafford fans booed his introduction against Chelsea in December.
