Dave Coldwell is a proper boxing man.

He's been in the sport for decades and he's seen and done it all -- from fighting to training to promoting to managing. Now he's returned to training, and with fantastic success.

It couldn't be happening to a better person, either. I know Dave well and he's a lovely fellow.

His stock as a trainer continues to rise. Jamie McDonnell is a world champion he trains, while Liverpool cruiserweight Tony Bellew could become the next in his ranks.

Bellew, who portrayed a world champion in the most recent film in the Rocky franchise 'Creed', now has the opportunity to win one for real as he faces Ilunga Makabu for the vacant WBC title with Goodison Park -- home of his beloved Everton FC -- the likely venue on June 4.

Bellew is another great character who I have a lot of time for and would love to see capture a world honour. He's had two losing attempts so far and has shown great heart and determination to pick himself back up after both defeats and put himself back in contention both times.

Bellew is boxing really well at the minute and has looked really good since turning to Coldwell for training. Coldwell always talks a lot of sense and it's clear he knows his boxing.

I haven't seen too much of Makabu, but his record 19 wins and just one defeat, with 18 early wins, suggests he can punch. However, we know Bellew can too and that's why they call him 'the Bomber'. It could lead to a very exciting fight.

I look at the two records though and just think this is a great opportunity for the Liverpudlian. This could be his time to capture the famous green belt.

I'm also very intrigued to see how the partnership works between Coldwell and the latest boxer to turn to him for help -- David Price.

The Scouser was the name on everyone's lips just a couple of years ago and...
