Diet guru Dr Michael Mosley shares three food groups to avoid to speed up fat burning

The advice based on the principles of the Keto diet, is thought to put your body into 'fat-burning' mode. The doctor stressed on ITV's This Morning that simply cutting calories is not always the best method for losing pounds and dieters should take note of how much sugar, starchy carbs and processed meat they eat

As the Daily Record reports, Dr Michael shared how avoiding sugar, starchy-carbohydrates, and processed meat can transform the body's metabolism. He urged viewers to stop indulging in sugary drinks, cereal, and even high-sugar fruit smoothies.

He said: "Cut right down on sugar, sugary treats, drinks, and desserts. That includes most breakfast cereals, which are usually full of sugar, as well as most commercial smoothies."

But unlike other weight-loss advice that focus on removing fats from your diet, Dr Michael said people should avoid or minimise starchy carbohydrates - listing white bread, pasta, potatoes and white rice as the culprits for many people's weight gain. By introducing legumes such as lentils, kidney beans and chickpeas to meals as "healthy and filling" alternatives, he added that it is a good way to cut down the cost of the food shop as well as offering health benefits.

The weight-loss expert added: "Switch instead to whole grains including bulgur (cracked wheat), whole rye, wholegrain barley, wild rice and buckwheat. Brown rice is okay."

Along with advising people to switch to whole grains, he also suggests people should follow a Mediterranean style diet.
