Disabled Edinburgh resident hits out inconsiderate drivers that block pavements

Margaret Muir, 53, says that her street is constantly inundated with cars perched up on the kerbside which makes navigating her community extremely difficult

She relies on a mobility scooter to get around and says that her model is not built for going over speed bumps and often struggles when it is not on the pavement.

Margaret adds that drivers in Slateford also park over the lowered elements of kerbs which causes problems for those with mobility issues using scooters as they find it hard to cross roads.

She has called for greater enforcement of drivers who park inconsiderately and has said that the community would be better off as a car free space.

The resident, who has been staying in her community for well over twenty years, shared pictures with Edinburgh Live that show the brazen nature of some drivers.

In the pictures you can see two cars covering almost the entirety of the public walkway - stopping anyone using a wheelchair, pushchair or mobility scooter from getting past.

She said: "It makes it very difficult to go to places that you want to go to.

"When my arthritis flares up, it can be really sore when having to go out onto the road and feel all the bumps and potholes.

"My scooter is not built for the road and sometimes when going over sleeping policemen it can cause wear and tear that can badly damage it.

"My street is supposed to be car free, certainly not for parking on the pavement!

"I feel unsafe when I have to go out onto the road to get around these cars parked by thoughtless people."
