EastEnders star set to run London Marathon 2024 'for Lola Pearce-Brown' says she 'hobbled through' last time

In the show, Honey and Jay will be taking on the Marathon in memory of Jay's late wife Lola Pearce-Brown who died of a brain tumour last year. The emotional storyline is set to be a big talking point for fans next week but the actors have spoken to the press about their training regime and how they've prepared to run the course while keeping in character

It's one thing to run the difficult 26.2mile course but for Emma and Jamie they'll also have to be in the mode of the characters we are used to seeing on our TV screens. Speaking to RadioTimes.com and other press about the training process, Barton explained: "I’ve worked a lot harder than I did the first time round. It was quite short-notice about five years ago, when I ran it for Barbara’s Revolutionaries.

"I wasn’t very strong, I’ve never really run before, so I had issues with things like Runner’s Knee, so that sort of hindered me a little bit, and, funnily enough, Jamie.

"So we both sort of hobbled through it. So this time round, I’ve made sure I’ve done as much as I possibly can, all the strength training, and sticking very strictly to a programme. So fingers crossed, we’ll be okay!"

Jamie Borthwick has said he's also 'thrilled' to take on the challenge despite it being 'painful on his knees and legs'. He said: "I'm pleased we chose Lola's storyline to be involved in [the London Marathon]. It's tough on the old knees, but the on the whole [it's going] alright!"

Lola Pearce-Brown's Danielle Harold heartbreaking demise on the show as she battled her illness left many fans in tears as her closest friends and family rallied around her in her final months.
