Edinburgh Aer Lingus flights cancelled amid staff Covid-19 outbreak

Just as we emerge away from COVID travel restrictions, travellers are now facing further stress as major airlines are being forced to cancel flights

Aer Lingus cancelled 12 flights today to and from Dublin Airport, according to RVSP Live, with one set for Edinburgh. The EI3250 flight was due to take off at 6.40am but was scrapped due to 'crew illness', according to the airline.

This comes as airlines such as British Airways and easyJet have also been struggling with staff shortages due to a range of reasons. As a result, hundreds of flights have been cancelled and more are expected to be axed over the summer.

Along with the Edinburgh flight, the EI650 to Frankfurt FRA, EI552 to Lyon, EI684 to Geneva, EI356 to Munich, and the EI610 to Amsterdam were also cancelled from Dublin Airport.

Meanwhile the EI3251 from Edinburgh due to leave for Dublin at 8.25am was also cancelled.

On social media Aer Lingus directed passengers to their cancellations and refunds policies. In the policies, they said: "If you booked directly with Aer Lingus and Aer Lingus has cancelled on the day of departure or delayed a flight due to a disruption, please see Flight Disruption Information for the latest details on current travel advisories and options for rebooking or requesting a refund.

"If you booked via a third party (such as a travel agent, online agency or another airline), and your flight is cancelled you should contact the original sales agent directly."

An Aer Lingus spokesperson told Edinburgh Live: "Due to a spike in Covid cases Aer Lingus has been forced to cancel six return flights from Dublin today, Wednesday 29 June. Our teams are working to secure alternative travel options for...
