Edinburgh family make lucky escape after car flipped onto its roof on busy road

The incident, which occurred on Seafield Road, around 4pm on Monday, June 27, resulted in four people escaping relatively unscathed after the driver reportedly clipped a few cars before the vehicle ended up on its roof

Police Scotland confirmed that four people were taken to the Royal Infirmary for treatment, with one eye witness speaking of how she heard the accident and rushed to the scene to begin administering first aid to the victims.

Photos from the scene showed the black car on its roof with traffic grounded to a halt, as rush hour began to take its tole and tailbacks stretched into the distance. The eyewitness, who preferred to remain anonymous, said that she was walking with her daughter and sister when they heard the collision and knew something bad had happened down the road.

When they arrived on the scene, a car was on its roof in the middle of the road, with several people stopping to get out and help. However, she reported that most people were worried about trying to move the car out of the way, rather than check on the condition of the young family.

The woman said: "The traffic was complete pandemonium. The road was blocked in both directions as it was rush hour traffic. I was walking with my sister and my daughter when we heard the smash, we rushed to the incident and four people were sitting against the wall on the pavement and the car was flipped over.

"Me and my sister are both trained first aiders so we went over to the family, a man, a woman and a young boy and girl. Somehow they all managed to get out of the wreckage and the man and woman only had minor injuries. My daughter stayed with the young children and spoke to them, but everyone was in total shock.

"There were various workmen on hand to try and move the car, but I remember thinking: 'Has anyone called the police or an ambulance? They probably shouldn't move the car as petrol could be leaking'."
