Edinburgh knifeman who pounced on woman in her home found dead in prison

He was armed with a knife when he menaced: "If you don't shut up, I will slit your throat." Reid admitted the October 2017 rape and was handed an order for lifelong restriction (OLR) at the High Court in Glasgow

Judge Lord Clark ordered he serve a minimum of four years and three months in September 2019. It has now emerged Reid died last week at HMP Edinburgh.

The cause of death is unknown but a fatal accident inquiry will be held in due course because he died in legal custody. The court heard Reid chapped the woman's door while holding a bottle of whisky and then held his victim captive before launching his sickening physical and sexual assault.

She told him she had been due to visit her mother that day but Reid told her: "You won't see your mum today. You have to do everything I say."

His victim, who has arthritis and walks with a stick, was eventually able to flee the property and get help from members of the public who contacted the police. She suffered bruising to her face, neck, arm and back.

Reid had been previously jailed for 10 years for rape and attempted rape in 1998. He was also found guilty of indecent assault and having sex with a girl as young as 13.
