Edinburgh local bumps into Prince Charles on city street after meeting pal for coffee

Scott Dixon was strolling around the centre of town after meeting a friend for coffee when he saw the royal standing outside the Royal Museum of Surgeons' on Nicolson Street during the sunny midweek afternoon

The Prince of Wales was there on official duties in a separate visit from other members of the Royal Family up in the capital this week.

Scott shared the pictures to Twitter exclaiming he could not believe he had spotted the prince while strolling round the city.

Pictured smiling in a dark blue suit while standing outside the hall, the heir to the throne was filling the role of his late father, the Duke of Edinburgh, at the medical institution.

In photos, he can be seen with the Lord Provost of the city following the ceremony and appears in good spirits.

Scott said: "I spotted Prince Charles at Surgeons' Hall earlier today. I was simply strolling home after meeting a friend for coffee and found that Prince Charles was visiting Surgeon's Hall as part of the Royal Week in Edinburgh.

"He was visiting with the Lord Provost."

Prince Charles has followed in the footsteps of his late dad to become patron of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

The Duke of Edinburgh served as patron of the College for 66 years, having first become patron in 1954, before his passing last year at the age of 99.

The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd) said it is a "privilege" to welcome Charles, who is known as the Duke of Rothesay in Scotland, as its new patron.
