Edinburgh named as one of the worst cities in UK for broadband outages

Scotland's capital comes in sixth place and is the only Scottish city to be placed on the worst cities for network outages

On average, Edinburgh households will experience a downtime of around 22.4 hours when they are hit with an outage from their broadband provider.

But things can always be worse, as Nottingham tops the list with a whopping average of around 70.2 hours of downtime.

Edinburgh was the worst city in the UK in 2021 but was supplanted by Nottingham and has also dropped below Southampton, Manchester, Bristol and Cardiff.

Just under 11 million households have been impacted by broadband blackouts that have lasted longer than three hours between the period of June 14 2021 and June 14 2022.

Consumers lost around two days of internet time due to a myriad of issues from loss of service, power cuts and maintenance, according to utility comparison website Uswitch.com.

Uswitch added that when external factors were included, such as 11.5 hours of power cuts, around five hours of cable damage and 10 hours of regular maintenance, the average UK consumer found themselves offline for just under two days.

The average outage time for homes across the UK was around 19 hours during the aforementioned period.

Around 16 per cent of Brits say that their broadband going down forced them to stop and this led to around 10 per cent of respondents saying that their boss had questioned their broadband reliability.
