Edinburgh NHS workers pay tribute to friend who could 'light up a room'

Liam O'Malley passed away in May, with his colleagues at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital now doing a sponsored walk to his beloved Tynecastle in his honour

They're raising funds for Omaz's Den, a group set up in Liam's memory - his nickname was Omaz - looking to bring people together and help those facing challenges.

Kelly Dodds, friend of Liam and one of those organising the walk, told Edinburgh Live: "Liam was really well known.

"He was such a character. He had a smile that could light up the room, and he had all the dance moves.

"In May, we lost our colleague and good friend in Liam. He was popular, and fun loving.

"Since his passing there's been a group created in his honour that helps people find activities and things to do, brings people together and no one feels alone. The funds we raise will be going to it, Omaz's Den, which is a really great cause.

"There's a whole ward of people taking part, I think there's around 18 of us. We'll walk from Balerno to Tynecastle in memory of Liam.

"We chose this route as Hearts was his pride and joy. It's around six or seven miles, and Hearts have said we can end our walk at Tynecastle.

"We really want to highlight that it's okay not to be okay."
