Edinburgh Taxi Outing takes to city centre streets for first time since Covid

The event is a highlight for many Edinburgh residents and 2022 marks the 74th year of the special day

The spectacular day consists of taxi drivers around Edinburgh who decorate their vehicles with multicoloured balloons, banners and other eye-catching artefacts and drive young children with special needs around the city.

This year, over 50 taxis are taking part and are driving over 100 children through Edinburgh and East Lothian.

Members of the public were encouraged to come prepared with items to soak the cars as they drive past, such as water balloons and buckets of water.

The event traditionally gets quite messy as the children fight back with their own water pistols, spraying people as they drive through the streets of Edinburgh.

Starting at Edinburgh Zoo, the taxi drivers who have taken time out of their busy schedules, drove the group through the well-known streets of the capital including Haymarket, Princes St and The Royal Mile. They then continued on to Musselburgh where the kids were rewarded with ice cream from the Musselburgh famous, Luca's.

The taxi tour was expected to finish at around 12.45pm in Dirleton after driving through East Lothian towns such as Prestonpans, Cockenzie and Port Seton.

After the tour, the youngsters and taxi drivers were to be treated to a private party at Archerfield Walled Garden to celebrate with a BBQ, bouncy castles, and even an extraordinary performance from a magician.
