Edinburgh weather: Met Office issue thunderstorm warning for East Lothian and Borders

The warning, which came into force at 1pm today, will remain in place until 10pm tonight.

Taking to their website to update the public they wrote; "Showers and thunderstorms are likely to bring periods of heavy rain, lightning and hail in places this afternoon." They add that people can expect delays or cancellations to train and bus services where flooding and lightning occurs.

People are also being warned that roads could be made worse leading to dangerous driving conditions. In addition, there is a "slight chance" that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could temporarily be lost.

According to BBC Weather, Edinburgh residents can expect lightning to occur from 10pm until 11pm with a flood warning having also been put in place for the Capital.

Issuing a detailed update the Met Office concluded: "While many places in the warning area will remain dry, heavy showers and thunderstorms will develop today, becoming most frequent from mid-afternoon and lasting into the evening in places.
