Briony had only been baking for five years when she took to the white tent, and often makes decorated wedding cakes and novelty bakes. She was born with a left hand that stops at the wrist, which she calls her 'little hand', and had requested that it not be mentioned on the baking show as she didn't want to be labelled 'disabled'. She even turned down the offer of using special equipment, saying she wanted to be treated the same as everyone else

The TV star has since become very proud of her achievements and disability. Opening up to the Loose Women panel in 2020, Briony said: "Growing up, my mum always told me that if I was gonna do something and I struggled, I just have to find my own way of doing it. That's how I've approached my whole life. I wanted to go on [Bake Off] and just be me. I didn't want the big label, the first disabled baker."

When Coleen Nolan asked if Briony had always been confident, she explained: "No. In my teenage years, everyone is self-conscious, but when I used to walk into a club I would get my best friend to hold my hand as we walked in.

"I'd always put my hands in my pocket and I had a lot of unkind experiences from guys growing up. Men more than anything. Women are generally more supportive."

Alongside being a TV chef and presenter on shows including Morning Live and Food Unwrapped, Briony is a dedicated mum to her daughter Nora, who she shares with her husband Steve. Briony regularly shares glimpses of her personal life and delicious recipes on social media, where has amassed 155k Instagram followers.
