Fabulous moths will be at the heart of a new art installation designed to dazzle and astonish; Chloe Rodham and Tim Lozinski are collaborating on The Illuminarium which is to be shown in Hexham and Newcastle.

Currently taking shape in Hexham is an art installation that both tantalises and makes a virtue of the encroaching gloom of autumn and winter.

The Illuminarium is billed as an ambitious, digital moving image installation by artists Chloe Rodham and Tim Lozinski which is designed to "dazzle and astonish" audiences at two North East venues.

Already it is being described as "Alice in Wonderland-esque" which is appropriate since Lewis Carroll's famous Alice's Adventures in Wonderland came out 150 years ago -- cause for much celebration around the country.

The artists promise, via their "immersive exhibition of luminous sculptures", to take us on a trip through the life cycle of one of the world's most mysterious creatures, the moth.

They have stated their intention to deploy multiple projections, sound and stop-motion animation and beautifully crafted models.

Chloe Rodham is a Northumberland-based emerging artist who specialises in combining traditional stop-motion techniques and model-making with digital creative processes.

"Illuminarium will engage audiences with a unique view of the world through the poetry of its smallest inhabitants," she promises.

"With glowing fibre-optic caterpillars and coccoon-shaped lanterns, our exhibition will reveal a projected stop-motion animation of moths."

Tim Lozinski, a 3D artist, animator and game developer, says: "I really wanted to work on a more 'hands-on' project and this particular installation and body of work will allow me to do just that.

"I enjoy tinkering with electronics and optics and so my modelling work on The Illuminarium will focus on those aspects of the piece.
