Family devastated as dog dies in hit-and-run after car runs red light

Mum Julie said: “She is absolutely broken. She isn’t sleeping, she can’t get that image out of her head. It just keeps coming back in flashbacks. I can’t take her pain away, I wish I could.

“Sausage was a big part of my life as well. When Hannah went away or she had to do something he always came to me and stayed with me and my dogs.

“He was a silly sausage, he was just absolutely adorable. He loved everybody, he was such a sweet boy. Beans is looking for Sausage, he won’t eat. He keeps looking for him. He witnessed it all as well as Hannah.”

Explaining what happened last Thursday, Julie said: “Hannah rang me straight away, I couldn’t even understand what she was saying at first. I made my way over but Sausage had passed away by the time she got to the vet.

“She had taken them for a walk and crossed the road at the pelican crossing. She pressed for the lights and waited as you do. The pelicans were sounding so she stepped out with the dogs and this car came from nowhere. Sausage was in front of her and the driver ran straight over him and carried on. I have no idea how anybody could do that, there are no words.”
