Footage shows the moment Lemington murderer is arrested for killing his girlfriend; James Campbell, of Lemington, left Colette Myers with the same type of injury usually found in a fall from a multi-storey building or by being hit with a car.

This is the moment murderer James Campbell was arrested for killing his girlfriend.

Campbell claimed he had just found Colette Myers dead in bed but in fact he had subjected her to a fatal assault and killed her. Campbell is facing a life sentence after jurors at Newcastle Crown Court convicted him of murder.

Body-worn footage shows him giving an initial account to police at the scene in Lemington, Newcastle, that he had just found her dead in bed before he is told he is being arrested on suspicion of murder. The "cruel and dangerous" murderer left his partner with the same type of injury that occurs in a fall from a building or by being struck by a car.

Campbell struck Colette, possibly with a baseball bat which he said she referred to as "Benny the bat", causing an artery in her neck and spine to tear, leading to bleeding on the brain and death. Colette, 33, was found dead at the couple's home in Lemington, Newcastle, last April.

Speaking after the trial, senior investigating officer, Detective Chief Inspector Louise Jenkins, said: "This is a tragic loss for Colette's family and I hope this verdict can bring them a sense of closure.
