Forensics scour busy Edinburgh street after 'hit and run' in early hours

Forensic officers were also spotted arriving at the scene, with Police Scotland confirming that the incident was a 'hit and run' and that a 23-year-old male has been arrested.

The victim, a 21-year-old is currently in hospital with 'serious' injuries as a result of the incident.

Part of Easter Road, St Clair Avenue and Dalmeny Street remain closed as traffic begins to build up in the area.

Several Lothian Bus services remain diverted as part of the road by Lidl remains closed to traffic and the public.

The first diversion was tweeted at around 3am in the morning, with the 35, 49, 1, 7, 14, 16 and 25 all being forced to take an alternative route.

The incident reportedly occurred around 2am, with the driver fleeing the scene.

Multiple police cars and ambulances were spotted by locals looking out their window, with officers remaining at the scene throughout the day, as well as the collision investigation team.

One local who lives near St Clair Street said that they were told not to leave their homes.
