Fundraising drive to replace defibrillator used to try to save alleged murder victim Jack Woodley; Sergio Petrucci, the founder of the Red Sky Foundation, says it is imperative to get a replacement due to it being used 'countless times'.

A charity is appealing for help to raise money to replace a missing defibrillator that was used to try to save alleged murder victim Jack Woodley.

Jack, 18, was found severely injured near the Britannia Inn on Newbottle Street in Houghton-le-Spring at around 9.30pm on October 16, 2021.

The teenager, who was originally from the Durham area, was taken to hospital but sadly later died as a result of his injuries.

Sergio Petrucci, the founder of the Red Sky Foundation, said a defibrillator that was installed at Anderson's Opticians was used to try to save his life, but tragically it was unable to save him.

However, since it was used, the charity has been unable to locate it and is now fundraising for a replacement after they installed it a couple of years ago with the help of the Houghton 41 Club.

Sergio stressed the importance of getting defibrillators out in the community and said they save "countless" lives.

He said: "This defibrillator was called upon to try and save Jack Woodley. The emergency services left the scene and they will usually take it with them to the hospital.

"However the emergency services told us they were unable to locate it.

"I didn't know about it until I was informed it had been deployed and that it had not been returned.

"Although it was unable to save Jack on that night, it has been used countless times prior to Jack.

"You can't put a price on someone's life. These defibrillators save lives so we just want to be able to reinstall it so it can continue helping others for some time to come."

Sergio and Emma Petrucci were inspired to set up the Sunderland-based charity Red Sky Foundation after their daughter's life was saved by doctors in 2015.
