Graduates in the spotlight

Families, friends, college staff and invited guests were welcomed along. to the college's first inperson awards ceremony since 2019 to cheer on the graduands.

The ceremonies were dedicated to students graduating from courses in the faculties of care and science, computing and creative industries and service industries, and business, social science and sport, supported learning, and engineering and automotive respectively.

Marvellous music was provided by one of the successful graduates, Lauren Kelly, from Coatbridge, who recently completed HND music at the college's Motherwell campus.

Singer-songwriter Lauren has launched her debut single, Give Me Your Love, on major streaming platforms.

Six "New College Lanarkshire Graduation Day" awards were presented to students as a symbol of the resilience and hard work shown during the pandemic, while a further six students found "golden tickets" under their seats to win them a special prize of Apple AirPods.

The college also awarded Fellowships to three remarkable women, Elaine C Smith, Professor Pamela Gillies CBE and Lady Susan Haughey CBE, in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the lives of people in Scotland.

Professor Christopher Moore, principal and chief executive, said: "It is a privilege and pleasure for me to congratulate New College Lanarkshire's class of 2021.

"Since March 2020, this amazing cohort of graduates have demonstrated astonishing levels of resilience and commitment in order to deal with the unique challenges associated with studying during the pandemic.

"Our annual award ceremony is a fitting celebration of all that has been achieved. We are delighted to be able to celebrate this hard work inperson on such a very special and important day.

"I know that our new graduates of New College Lanarkshire will use all of the knowledge and skills that they have gained during their time with us to make a positive difference in the world."

All of the students achieved qualifications at SCQF Level 7 (HNC) and above during the 2020-21 academic year.
