Haringey woman, 19, with gap in her teeth gets £3k settlement from dentist

Two of her teeth were removed before fitting her braces but after four years she claimed there was little progress in her treatment which had instead created new issues on the side of her teeth. Sherrise said it affected her wellbeing and self-confidence at a young age, she avoided smiling at school and even covered her mouth while talking or laughing to hide the gap which wasn't going away

She said: "Finally, when the time came to take off my braces in 2022, I still had the gap on the side. I was so upset and unhappy. I was crying at the dentist, worried I'd have a gap for life, as after four years of wearing braces my teeth still didn't look right."

On the examination of her dental records, it was reportedly found that the treatment should have been completed in just one to two years instead of four -meaning she had the discomfort and inconvenience of the brace for an additional 30 months and the gap has still not gone away.

"My teeth weren't getting any better. I developed an additional gap at the side of my teeth that wasn't there before -if that closed, the front teeth gap would widen, and if the front teeth gap closed, the side gap would widen," Sherrise explained.

She said: "I always felt so insecure and self-conscious wearing braces for four years, with my gap constantly on show and never improving. At school I didn't want to smile, and I had to cover my mouth when talking or laughing. It was embarrassing. After all that time, the gaps in my teeth still...
