Hearts transfer update on Ellis Simms as Lawrence Shankland 'interested' in Robbie Neilson reunion

The Jambos have been busy on the transfer front and have strengthened their defence with the captures of Alex Cochrane, Kye Rowles and Lewis Neilson, while Alan Forrest and Jorge Grant have provided reinforcement in the final third. A striker is what they are also after this window, though, ahead of their new Premiership campaign and European group stage football until Christmas time

Shankland has been heavily linked with a move back to the UK a year on from leaving Dundee United for Belgium. He worked with Neilson during the current Tynecastle boss' Tannadice dugout stint and the Edinburgh Evening News reports the Scotland international would be 'interested' in working with his ex-gaffer and coaching staff in Edinburgh.

Any potential deal, though, still has a long way to go and could be drawn out.

A fee is yet to be agreed and 'other financial demands mean any deal would take some negotiating.'

Ellis Simms filled that void on loan from Everton last season and became a fan favourite during his short Gorgie stint, now back in Merseyside.

The report states Hearts are keen to sign him again and Everton would look at another loan for the forward...
