Heathrow airport: Nose of British Airways plane collapses onto tarmac

The front wheel of the plane appears to have given way causing the stationary Boeing 787-8 to fall forward and smash into the ground below.

Airport officials in high vis jackets can be seen in pictures crowding around the damaged jet at stand 583 on a grey rainy morning in West London.

The aircraft was carrying out a flight from Moscow only two days ago on June 16. Luckily there were no passengers on board when the plane fell to the ground.

British Airways said: “A freighter aircraft has been damaged while stationary on stand. As a freighter only aircraft there were no passengers on board.

“Safety is always our highest priority and we are investigating the matter.”

My London contacted Heathrow Airport but they declined to comment.

Despite there only being 11 countries on the green travel destination list, millions of Brits are still expected to be going on holiday this summer.

Tui, Europe’s biggest package holiday company, announced last month that it has 2.6 million forward bookings for summer 2021 -In 2019, one in five of Tui’s holidays 20.3 per cent was sold in the UK.
