Hibs urged to provide Lewis Miller patience as former boss compares new Easter Road recruit with Hearts signing

The Australian youth international has impressed down under in the former Scotland u21s player's A League team but is moving to Edinburgh from competitors MacArthur FC. The defender signed a pre-contract with the club prior to agreeing his switch to Scotland following inclusion in the A League Team of the Season

A right-back with the potential to play on the left of defence, Miller has made 56 career appearances to date after breaking through at Central Coast and now has his big chance with Hibs, who are heading out for warm weather pre-season training in Portugal amid a raft of new signings. Eight fresh recruits have joined the Hibees, including former Celtic winger Aiden McGeady and promising Portuguese talent Jair Tavares from Lisbon giants Benfica.

Miller arrives in the capital with former Mariners teammate Kye Rowles, who has joined Hearts. Their former boss reckons that while some awkward coffees could ensue, success can be found in Leith.

He exclusively told Edinburgh Live Sport : "Lewis is a young player. He's a very powerful full-back who can play centre-back. He's had a really good season.

"But it will be a big shock for Lewis. He's physical but he will realise a lot of the teams are like that as well. It will be a good test for him.

"Kye's been consistent for a number of years which is why I think Hearts are getting a well-rounded player. Lewis has massive potential and I have been fortunate to work with him and get the best out of him.

"That was pushing him to be consistent which he did. He adapted his game a bit and he's used his strength to his advantage. He can take people on 1v1 and can defend too. He just needs that consistency that Kye's had.

"I think there's been a bit of banter that it'll be hard to have a coffee in public. Hearts fans will give Lewis stick and Hibs fans will give Kye stick! It should be interesting."

Meanwhile, the Coast boss reckons that Hibee hero and former Rangers striker Jason Cummings is more than capable of reaching the World Cup in Qatar this year after shining in his team.
