Hilariously East London moment girl spots friend she met in Goa along Regent's Canal

We're all aware of the age-old debate of North versus South of the river -but the gentrification of East London and it's hipsters has definitely been let off in recent years.

But last night on Twitter, it was on the receiving end of a barrage of hilariously weird and wonderful anecdotes as Londoners shared the moments they thought most encapsulated London’s East End.

The frenzy was started by deputy editor of The Times James Marriott sharing this tweet: "Have just been privileged to witness the most East London moment of my life.

“Spoken by a woman kayaking frantically down the Regent's canal towards a pedestrian on the towpath: ‘Oh my God. Francesca is that you We met in Goa! At the breath workshop! Remember"

Londoners reacted by sharing their best ‘East London moments’ and we’ve collected a few of the highlights for you to marvel, or maybe despair at.

This one is definitely my favourite: “I was at a dinner party with an extremely posh bloke. I wasn’t paying any attention to the conversation until he loudly and angrily stated: ‘HERONS KEEP COMING INTO MY MOAT!’
