Chocolate is kind of a difficult thing to review but with that in mind I’ve devised a fool proof system based on four key factors: Taste, presentation, price, and size. Ground-breaking review categories I’m sure you’ll agree.
The contenders in this truly epic battle of eggs are as follows: Tesco’s cheapest offering of a milkybar egg, Asda’s cut price KitKat egg, and Lidl’s own-brand Henry the Hippo egg.
Let's see what one came out on top...
Tesco -Milkybar Egg
Price: £1
Presentation: Tesco’s Milkybar egg is about as basic as you can go with an Easter egg without completely doing away with a box altogether and just flogging chocolate in foil. The foil does have polka dots though so I guess that’s a plus
I don’t remember what happened to the Milkybar kid, but he’s nowhere to be seen, and the boring packaging is all the worse for it.
Size: The Milkybar egg is pathetically small, granted this is probably because it’s white chocolate but is that really any excuse At 65g it’s about half and a quarter respectively of the weight of the other two and comes with no accompanying treat to sweeten the deal.
Taste: This being the only white chocolate egg of the three gave it a real chance to shine here, and as an entirely biased fan of Milkybar I have to say it definitely stood out.
Asda -KitKat egg
Price: 75p
Presentation Asda’s KitKat Chunky box comes in similar Nestle packaging, it does have a bit more heft to it and comes with a kind of cardboard basket for the egg inside which is a nice touch, and recyclable as well.
Size: KitKat wisely know their appeal lies in the fact that people like KitKats. With this in mind the KitKat egg comes with a KitKat. It really isn’t difficult looking at you Milkybar.
The KitKat egg is also the biggest of the three by a whisker although feels a bit flimsy at 129g.
Taste: This one just tasted of Easter egg I really don’t know what to tell you. Again with KitKat you can’t really go wrong with it...
