'I visited a 'zombie seaside town' in off season - and was very surprised'

Essex's seaside hot spot Walton-on-the-Naze is certainly no different, and is known during the off-peak season to feel like a deserted no-go area. It's a far cry from the warmer months as when bathed in sunshine, this quaint town transforms into a scenic bustling resort that has people flocking from miles

It's a peaceful summer retreat compared to busier places like Southend-on-Sea, thanks to its distance from London. I've had the chance to discover many fascinating parts of the county that I hadn't thought of visiting before.

Even though I was born and raised in Essex, Walton-on-the-Naze is one such place.

I'm not much of a swimmer and, as a redhead, sunbathing on the beach isn't really my thing - I'd end up looking like a slice of salami!, reports the Mirror.

If I were to hit the beach, I'd probably go to Southend. My grandparents lived in Clacton, so I would sometimes enjoy summer trips there, as well as bracing walks along the seafront in winter.

EssexLive's Exploring Essex series has shown us that the county is home to miles of stunning coastline. However, when it's not summer, these places can feel quite different, and Walton is no exception.

On my recent trip there, the weather was grey and drizzly. The usually vibrant summer spot felt more like a scene from a spooky film because of the heavy clouds and dampness.
