JK Rowling 'first saw copy of Harry Potter' inside iconic Edinburgh bookshop

The author now has worldwide fame for her series of fantasy novels, however the 56-year-old shared that when the first Harry Potter was released, she was a "total unknown."

Sharing an image of her first, very worn looking copy of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, Rowling said she had first seen and bought it in Edinburgh.

Heading to Waterstones on Princes Street 25 years ago, the author regaled the memory of seeing her work on a book store shelf for the very first time.

In a message of thanks to her original publisher, Bloomsbury Books, she said:
