London bluebell walks won't get better than they are right now -Croydon woodland one of city's best

One of the best places to do so comes in Croydon. Coulsdon Common, in the south of the borough, is home to beautiful meadows and woodland areas which are covered with bluebells at this time of year

The best bit is in a place called Rydons Wood, now part of Coulsdon Common. Coulsdon Heritage posted directions for the best route you can take to soak up as any bluebells as possible.

They said to start you should get to Rydons Wood Close and follow it along to the top of the pipe track. Then you go along Stites Bottom to the Coal Post on Stites Hill Road. It's only a short walk but it is filled with tranquil woodland and a sheet of blue flowers.

Pip Toogood from Coulsdon Heritage said: "There are so many bluebell woods round here." Devilsden Wood, nestled in Happy Valley nearby to Rydons Wood is also great for bluebells, Pip said. It's about a 20-minute walk from Stites Hill Road so you can continue the walk onwards to another beautiful green area.

The Coulsdon Common area has a grand history too with the southern section of the wood belonging to Coulsdon Manor in days gone by, Coulsdon Heritage said. At the time it was known as Stites Coppice. Later on, it was bought by the City of London Corporation in 1924.
