London boy, 17, convicted over acid mugging at Essex restaurant that left victim struggling to sleep

After being threatened with the substance, the boy handed over his phone and coat. Officers were called to the scene and took his account, and CCTV footage was shared with the Met Police once it was established the two suspects may have fled on a train back to London. One of those assailants, a 17-year-old boy from London, was arrested on March 8 last year

The boy -who can't be named because of his age -denied robbery, but was convicted after a trial at Southend Youth Court on Tuesday April 16. He was sentenced to a six-month Detention and Training Order, with a condition attached to pay the victim £500 in compensation.

'I kept going over the incident in my head'

In an impact statement, the victim said: "For around the first one to two months I kept going over the situation in my head to imagine what I could have done differently... I felt as though I was blaming myself and felt guilt for what had happened to me... I struggled to sleep every night because the incident kept replaying in my head vividly."
