London Marathon prizes and how much the winners make in 2024

And this year makes history for prize winners as it's the first time that all the cash pots are the same across all the elite races. The money is dished out in dollars which is great news for runners as the pound is on a downward trend against the dollar at the moment

The total amount waiting to be given out is a staggering $308,000 £247,635. Out of this, all the winners of the elite races will win $55,000 £44,220 for the first time in the race's history.

The runners-up will earn $30,000 £24,120 and third place will land winners $22,500 £18,090. Last year, the wheelchair race's first prize was only $35,000 £28,140 so this extra money is a serious incentive this year and is a world first for any marathon to do so.

Last year Kelvin Kiptum of Kenya won the men's elite race with an incredible time of 2:01:25. He is also the current world record holder for men's marathons with a staggering 2 hours and 35 seconds which he set in the Chicago Marathon in October 2023.

For the elite women's race, debutant Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands won -steaming ahead with a time of 2:18:33. In the wheelchair race the elite men's winner was Marcel Hug from Switzerland with an amazing 1:23:44. He was five minutes ahead of the runner up and it was a 50-second improvement on his course record and his third consecutive win at the London Marathon -his fifth in total.
