Despite this, it could come as unwelcome news to the prospective participants who might have hoped for slightly cooler or wetter weather to help cool off from the tribulations that come with the taxing race

Three weather forecasters have published their predictions for the day. While they generally agree that there won't be rain there are slight differences in their forecasts for the marathon.

Met Office

The Met Office predicts a decidedly mild day with plenty of cloud cover through most of it. There will be highs of 15 degrees in the capital at 4pm, the agency says. Many runners will have finished their respective races by then which start between 8.50am and 9.40am on Blackheath.

The Met Office says there will be a UV index level of 3 and 4 between 10am and 1pm -the highest of the day. For the rest of the day it's around 1 or 2 which should be okay in terms of sunburn.

BBC Weather

BBC is a bit more optimistic about sunshine through the day. From 6am there will be sun and clouds until 2pm, they say. A short interval of overcast clouds between 3pm and 5pm will then be followed...
