London Tier 4: Video shows massive queue of '300 people' outside Beckenham Waitrose as capital enters Tier 4

The capital joins parts of the South East and East of England in being placed under the tougher restrictions, which will see many people stay at home and not be able to meet family this Christmas.

With that in mind, it appears Londoners are heading out in droves to the supermarket to get everything they need for the big day.

And this is true for one South London Waitrose.

One shopper shared a video with MyLondon this morning Monday, December 21 that showed a massive queue of shoppers braving the rain at the Beckenham supermarket.

Cars continue to stream into the car park as a long line of up to "300 people" line up from the entrance, all around parked cars with their trolleys -and of course, at least two metres apart.

There has been more concern with food supply levels due to France closing the Channel Tunnel to UK residents in a bid to stop the spread of coronavirus.

London Tier 4: Sainsbury's warns of 'broccoli and fruit shortage' if UK coronavirus travel ban continues could be in short supply for shoppers.

A spokesperson for Sainsbury's said: "All products for the Great British Christmas lunch are already in the country and we have plenty of these.

"We are also sourcing everything we can from the UK and looking into alternative transport for product sourced from Europe.

"If nothing changes, we will start to see gaps over the coming days on lettuce, some salad leaves, cauliflowers, broccoli and citrus fruit -all of which are imported from the Continent at this time of year.
