M23 crash puts 6 in hospital as air ambulance lands after accident between Gatwick and M25 junction

Surrey Police has issued a witness appeal. An air ambulance was dispatched but it's unclear if any of those taken to hospital were airlifted

A Surrey Police spokesperson said: "We are appealing for witnesses following a collision on the M23 northbound between junctions 8 and 9 involving three vehicles this morning Thursday, April 18.

"The collision occurred at around 11.45am and involved an HGV, a minibus and a people carrier. Six people have been taken to hospital. The motorway was closed northbound while officers dealt with the scene."

Traffic is currently filtering past the incident on the northbound side on two out of four lanes after being held for nearly three hours. The southbound side has been fully reopened. Congestion on the northbound side has stretched all the way back to Junction 11 for Pease Pottage. There are also delays on the A22 past Blindley Heath as traffic seeks alternative routes. Godstone and Reigate are also heavily congested.
