Man rescued from collapsed Charlton building site after 6-hour operation

Fire rescue units attended the scene near Bramshot Avenue on Tuesday, April 16, deploying specially trained Urban Search and Rescue crews. London Ambulance Service also attended and worked with LFB to coordinate medical care throughout the incident

The brigade were first called at 12.29pm and the rescue lasted for over six hours. The incident was over for crew at 6.47pm.

Crews worked methodically to extract the trapped man, excavating sand and clay from the trench to increase access. As they did this, steps were taken to shore up and stabilise the trench to prevent any further collapse.

One of the Brigade's 32m ladders was also deployed to the scene to assist crews as they carried out rescue operations...
