A man suffered serious injuries after an alleged attack in a busy city centre nightclub.

The 20-year-old was taken to hospital after the suspected assault in Perdu, onNewcastle's Collingwood Street, in the early hours of Thursday, June 1.

Police arrested Abdul Jelilou Ouro Kefia, 24, of Harriet Street, inByker, in connection with the attack and subsequently charged him with grievous bodily harm with intent.

He appeared at South EastNorthumberland Magistrates' Court, where he was remanded in custody.

As the case was so serious, it could only be heard at the crown court and no plea was taken.

Kefia was remanded in custody to next appear at Newcastle Crown Court on July 4.

Northumbria Police officers are still appealing for any witnesses of the alleged attack to get in touch.
