A tremendous show of prime cattle was forward. Demand came from all purchasers who were present. Many purchasers were delighted with the quality on show. Sold first today at 1pm before the prime cattle were 18 store cattle.

Show results Class 1 Best Heifer: 1st - Messer's Renton of Highlaws farm realising 280pkg and £1663 for a home bred Limousin heifer purchased by B&T Kitson Butchers of Hutton Rugby, Northallerton and Fives houses at Yarm. The superbly finished offand fed heifer was presented in a fantastic condition by the Renton family. Several butcher orders around the ring fought in purchasing the limousin heifer with B&T Kitson Butchers coming out victors on this occasion. 2nd - Messers Renton of Highlaws farm realising 258pkg and £1506 purchased by Mr M Turnbull of R Turnbulls butchers of Alnwick Class 2 Best Steer: 1st - Messers H Clark 7 Son of Paxton Dene Farm realised 240p for a homebred Limousin Steers that realised £1320. The cracking little steer was purchased by Hartshead Meats of Mossley; 2nd Messer G Manners & Son of Chevington Moor realised 232p for a Limousin steer that realised £1396 and was purchased by Mr W Howard on behalf of R Martin butchers of Morpeth Class 3 Native Breed: 1st - Messers JF Johnson & Son of Tuthill Farm realised 209p for a fantastic Angus steer that realised £1546 purchased by Hartshead Meats of Moseley; 2nd Messers GS Grey & Son of The Heugh sold an Angus heifer that realised £207 & £1337 and was purchased by MR G Chapman of Carlisle.

Prime sheep North East Livestock Sales held its annual Christmas prime stock show and sale, comprising 1388 prime lambs, 302 cast ewes and 40 store lambs.

The annual show attracted a fantastic run of lambs with some 43 pens forward for the judge, James Curle of Bowsden, to decipher over.

After much deliberation, the championship was awarded to the Moralee family from Hard Riding, Bardon Mill, Hexham. The pen of outstanding Beltex lambs from John, Ben and Jack Moralee weighed in at 47kg and were purchased by Mr Hugh Tulip for £166 per head and 355pkg on behalf of Tony Green and the Penshaw farm shop.

Reserve Champions went to the Grey Family, Low Espley for a pen of outstanding Beltex lambs realising 278p and £114 per head to James Curle.
