Memorial garden is unveiled

It received the royal seal of approval this week with a visit from Lady Susan Haughey, the Lord Lieutenant of Lanarkshire and the King's representative in the county, who visited the charity to see the garden in full bloom and to find out more about their work in supporting those affected by childhood sexual abuse.

Work on creating the garden has been taking place since late last year, with project supporters Patersons Quarries donating the stone from their Dunduff Quarry in Lesmahagow where it was chosen by Moira's sister Janet alongside charity founder Sandra Brown.

It was then transported into place with the company also helping to landscape the previously barren space behind the charity's expanded offices, while volunteers have been busy planting flowers and shrubs donated by Newhouse nursery Greenside.

Sandra told the Advertiser: "Everything in the garden is carefully chosen to have some kind of link with Moira or her family - Janet chose the stone as it had a lot of pink in it, and the plants are favourite flowers and colours and things linked by looking at the Latin names for flowers.

"Moira loved robins and blue butterflies so both of those are included; everything is very pertinent and there are lovely heathers and even a rose called Sandra, and all the plants are in full bloom just now and looking lovely.
