Alison Dodds was found by two social workers at an address in Redcar Road, Blackpool, on the morning of September 21. The 52-year-old was under a pile of blankets and duvets, and it was clear she had suffered a brutal attack

Hindley had left her there. As he walked the streets of Blackpool following the 'humiliating' attack, he discussed how he planned to put Alison into a sleeping bag and set it alight. When police later collared him for his vile crime, he only had five words: "I know what I've done."

Today March 27, the 35-year-old was jailed for Alison's murder. He will serve a life sentence, with a minimum of 16 years and eight months, LancsLive reports.

Hindley returned to the flat before the police arrived. He told the social workers he had left Alison with two other people and she had been 'fine'. However CCTV later confirmed only he and Alison had been at the flat before her death.

Peter Glensen KC, prosecuting, told Preston Crown Court that around 9.30am Hindley met another woman in Egerton Road and asked her to get drugs for him.

"He told her there was the body of a man in his flat. He said he had tried to hit him over the head and he had strangled him", he said.

The woman asked Hindley what he planned to do with the body, to which Hindley said he would 'put it in a garage in a sleeping bag and burn it'.

The pair agreed to meet later, but when they did, Hindley seemed 'rushed' and said they had found the body, Mr Glensen said. Hindley was arrested in Cleveleys, three days later.

He told the officer: "I know what I've done."

As he was booked into custody at Blackpool Police Station, he said: "She hit me around the head with a bar". But Hindley later refused to answer any questions in interview.

A post mortem examination, carried out by Home Office Pathologist, Dr Alison Armour, found Alison Dodds had suffered a prolonged and brutal attack, in which she had been strangled, smothered and suffered broken ribs -any of which could have caused her death.

She also had significant injuries to her face and ears and there was evidence that both blunt and sharp force were used. Fractures to her ribs were consistent with the defendant having straddled her during the attack, the court heard.

She also had 'humiliating' cuts to both her earlobes, the court heard. Alison's sister, Joanne Chambers, read a statement on behalf of Alison's three siblings. She said each of them had suffered emotionally since Alison's death.

"When I was first told about Alison's...
