Motorcyclist in hospital with 'life-threatening injuries' following collision with car in Bishop Auckland; Durham Constabulary closed the road for over four hours following the collision and advised motorists to avoid the area.

A motorcyclist is in hospital with life-threatening injuries following a two-vehicle collision in County Durham.

At 8am this morning, emergency services were called to reports of a collision between a Seat Ibiza and a motorbike on the A688, near the Park Head Hotel, Bishop Auckland. A road closure was put in place and lasted for over four hours after the crash and Durham Constabulary advised motorists to avoid the area.

North East Ambulance Service NEAS and the Great North Air Ambulance Service GNAAS were called to the scene and the rider of the motorbike was taken by road to Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary RVI.

A Durham Constabulary spokesperson said after the collision: "Police were called at 8am this morning October 25 to reports of a two-vehicle collision on the A688, near the Park Head Hotel in Bishop Auckland. The incident involved a Seat Ibiza and a motorbike.
