However, the project manager for HM Prison and Probation Service was finally caught and jailed after making a crucial phone call to one of Richard's close friends. She was only imprisoned after Richard confided in the friend when Sheree had invited him over, claiming she feared for her safety.

Now, a shocking Channel 5 documentary, My Wife My Abuser, reveals her appalling abuse that lasted two decades, and how Richard's secret nanny cam footage provided the evidence to put her behind bars.

Throughout their marriage, Sheree escalated her violent behaviour towards him, starting with 'pushing, shoving and slapping'. Over time, things got worse, she would spit on Richard, lock him out of the house, and even stab him with forks, reports the Mirror.

On one occasion, she hit him with a wine bottle so hard that it permanently disfigured one of his ears and even defecated on his head, leaving him feeling 'demoralised'.

In a cunning attempt to prevent the father-of-three from seeking help, Sheree repeatedly threatened to tell the police that he was the abuser. However, what Sheree didn't anticipate was that Richard had a loyal friend watching over him.

Unbeknownst to Sheree, Richard, who would hide his injuries with make-up, had started secretly recording the abuse, fearing he'd need it as 'insurance' if she tried to stop him from seeing their children. The truth finally came out one evening when Sheree, who worked as a senior project manager for HM Prison and Probation Service, called one of Richard's friends claiming her husband was drunk and that she was scared of what he might do.
